Combining actors and performers on set with virtual assets is not a novelty. But the increased demand for complex interactions between them, together with the need for real time, VFX-grade in-camera effects, poses many challenges.
Currently, audiences’ participation in TV shows is far from active; and presenters on set are not fully immersed in their virtual studios.
disguise believes that technical limitations should not impact creativity and on-set performances. The R&D Team proved this by developing a prototype able to dynamically reconstruct the depth information from the scene, discriminating physical and virtual elements and make any type of interaction between them realistic and correct. In addition, the automatic generation of mattes offers a fast and efficient process to remove any objects from the scene not intended to be in the final shot, or to be replaced with virtual assets.
Practically, this innovation allows on set talent to walk through any virtual objects and believably interact with them: virtual particle effects will bounce on any physical volume on set; multiple actors will seamlessly walk through a field of virtual grass, all independently of each other and perfectly blending in a depth-correct space.
These innovative features, integrated with the development carried by the AdMiRe partners, holds the potential for new, groundbreaking entertainment!
