Usually implemented in Virtual Reality, Foveated Rendering help maximise render efficiency whilst improving the quality of user experience. disguise is currently working to extend these techniques to their xR workflow, aiming at increasing the realism in on-set digital environments.
During production, the broadcast camera might not need to capture the entire LED surface constituting the set. Could these portions of unused LED display become contributors to scene lighting? And how would they provide indirect light from the digital content to the physical scene, without affecting render time?
Starting from Foveated Rendering, the innovations under development will greatly improve realism by making use of generated indirect light, promote presenters’ feeling of presence in digital environments and enhance the blending between virtual and real elements, all without compromising the real time delivery.
